Thesis Title: Secondary Verbs in Old Irish: a comparative-historical study of patterns of verbal derivation in the Old Irish glosses

About

I am in the very last stages of finishing my PhD in Celtic Studies (passed my viva on the 15th of December 2011 and am putting the last hand to my corrections). My thesis is about secondary verbs in Old Irish and one thing I am certain about is that I haven't finished writing or talking about secondary verbs yet. There is plenty of material in the thesis for papers and articles, plus inspiration for new research for years to come. My main fascination at the moment is with secondary deponent verbs.

I believe not only in research-inspired teaching, but also in teaching-inspired research. My students inspire me to do research and I hope I inspire them to learn. The main thing I want to teach, whatever the subject, is critical thinking, the formation of an argument based on evidence, the confidence in students' own abilities to challenge others' opinions, even the teacher's.
I can teach Old Irish, Middle Welsh, Celtic and Indo-European linguistics, Medieval Irish and Welsh literature, Medieval Irish and Welsh history, Early Irish Law, medieval European literature and am willing to teach anything relating to these fields.

Other than Old Irish and Middle Welsh, I have a good working knowledge of Latin, Modern Irish, and French and a working knowledge of Classical Greek, Modern Welsh and Old Norse. I am fluent in English, Dutch, German and Swedish.

In my free time, I like to read, write, travel and I am considering which new language to learn first (Icelandic and Finnish are vying for first place on the list).
