About
Something like this could be said about me:
Lucy McAndrew is in her second (though nominally her third) year of PhD research under the supervision of Tom Duddy, in the field of Environmental Ethics. Three-time VSO (Voluntary Service Overseas) volunteer, environmental representative at local and council level (in a voluntary capacity), Lucy is particularly keen on investigating respect for marginalised interests. It is through an investigation of the boundaries and relationships between human moral agents, or, more simply, humans, on the one hand, and nature, or, more accurately, naturally biodiverse 'clusters', on the other, that she is attempting to reassess moral considerability and responsibility. While this is a work in progress, the most accurate way to describe this approach so far is 'ground-up': through an imaginative extension to include microbiota in moral consideration, it may be possible to reevaluate, and reconstitute, our responsibilities as humans to both ourselves and the rest of life on the planet, so that a workable inter-human, inter-species ethic can emerge.
